News is pretty sketchy on this incident. Apparently a teen was found wounded on Chili Ave but was shot in an apartment on Salina. Can we have the camera back that was on Chili and Salina ?

I do know that there are "mobile" cameras that are meant to be moved when needed. I would call the Neighborhood Service Center and ask about the cameras. Kris seems pretty knowledgeable about them. If not I know she can find out.

So how do we find out WHAT HAPPENED to the camera and WHY?
WHO are the decision makers about these things like this and how are the voices of regular citizens involved in this process..... it seems outrageous that a camera would be removed from a KNOWN area of difficulty! Is this not the same area that had a large 'bust' several months ago?? The same area where Mayor Duffy 'walked the streets' (guided tour and all) and promised more attention?? Is this another scenario of things get 'cleaned up' for a while and then it's back to 'status quo'?
I also am curious about why the shooting is not in the D&C...... is it so common here that it's no longer 'news'??

After shootings and a couple of drug busts we did have a camera but apparently the powers that be deemed it more necessary to use it elsewhere. It was very effective in eliminating a lot of activity on the block of Chili between Salina and Thurston. In particular the apartment located on Chili and Salina corner which was infamous for the "pricesses of pavement" plying their trade. It seems that everything in the 19th Ward is a process of one step forward and two steps back. I was very vocal about the positive changes to this area but we see progress and then step back and let it happen again.
As well, lack of information about events in our ward is totally lacking. Location 19 has been very helpfull with warders doing their best to keep everyone informed of events that occur. The only coverage I could find was a small blurb on WHEC 10. I ckecked other TV stations and the D &C but I guess its another non-event.

I read in last months PCIC meeting minutes tat there are 90 more cameras coming. I'm not sure how many will come to the Southwest side of the city.

What happened to the camera???
hasn't this area been a 'hot spot' before??
It seems to me that the last several shootings have occurred in areas that we citizens have been complaining about for a long time......... the bars on Thurston, the bus stop/corner on Thurtson/Milton, the area near Angelo's, Chili/Salina. The police response tends to be something along the lines of 'it's not random' - i.e. these are people who have 'beefs' with one another, etc, etc.
My newest thinking on the 'not random' is to agree but from a different perspective. We KNOW where some of the 'hot spots' are. We complain, we bring it to the attention of authorities and it seems that nothing gets done! It's not random and we need to continue organizing and DEMANDING that the police and city do their part to fix these non-random issues!
