19th Ward Community Cats

This group is for 19th Ward residents who are concerned about the plight of stray, feral, and abandoned cats in our neighborhood.  It is our goal to live in a community where all cats are treated humanely and cats and humans live in harmony.

That is where most of our communication is happening right now.  You may also contact us via the 19th Ward Community Association at 328-6571 to get on our email list.

19th Ward Community Cats was hard at work in 2015!!!  In 2015, we were able to spay/neuter 287 free roaming cats in the 19th Ward as part of the City Kitty project.  They were also vaccinated,  and treated for fleas, worms, and parasites.  That's 287 outdoor cats who've received vet care and will no longer be reproducing on our streets or be vulnerable to disease!  Approximately 80 of those cats/kittens were placed for adoption with our City Kitty partner, Four-Legged Friends Animal Adoptions, Inc., and they're now in loving forever homes- off the streets entirely!  Members of this group and colony caretakers volunteer their time and bear the financial burden for much of this work.  If you'd like make a financial contribution to this group please take or mail your donation to the 19th Ward Community Association Office, 216 Thurston Road.  Every dollar is spent on vet care for our community cats.  If you'd like to help in any other way, please let us know!  Thank you!!

Hi Alice,
What time on Sunday?

Hi all,

Looks like this Sunday, 8/15, does work for quite a number of us, so do please plan to meet then -- sorry Heidi!

August 15 is good for me.

Mean time, I've been needing, but not having time, to see if August 15th will work for people for the next meeting date. 8/9 would normally fit out "2nd Sunday" schedule, but I'll be out of town myself that day.

I'm sorry to hear Marley's missing! And I do indeed hope it's just a matter of her preference.

FYI....Marley who is pictured in the photo for this cat group has been missing for about 2 weeks. We are hoping that she has simply found a better house and/or food. Please keep an eye out for her and let us kmow if you happen to see her.... She has very distintive coloring/features.

Lollypop Farm has resumed its feral cat spay/neuter program. Normally during the week they are able to accommodate a few cats, and their usual rate is $50.

However, this fall they are having 3 Fix-a-Thons on weekend days, with the rate dropped to $25. The first Fix-a-Thon is coming up soon on August 28, and the other two are in October.

Craig Walker has asked me to publicize the Fix-a-Thons, as they're looking to get 60 cats signed up for each one.

Call Craig Walker for more info - 223-1330 ext. 251.

Hello all,

I've been having "one of those days" for the past couple of weeks, and haven't gotten done a lot that I've meant to!

So I hope some of you are either more organized than I right now or else that you check your e-mail this morning, and therefore remember that our next scheduled meeting about feral cats is this afternoon at 2 pm, at the 19th Ward Community Association office at 216 Thurston Road.

I hope to see you there!

Alice

This guy has been coming to my feeding station for a few weeks:

We trapped him and got him to the Habitat for Cats clinic yesterday. He had some wounds on his front paw from fighting, so the vet cleaned them up and gave him a shot of long-lasting antibiotic along with the usual inoculations.

While not really friendly, he was pretty relaxed and seems not to be a true feral; more likely someone's pet who was lost or abandoned.
