19th Ward Community Cats

This group is for 19th Ward residents who are concerned about the plight of stray, feral, and abandoned cats in our neighborhood.  It is our goal to live in a community where all cats are treated humanely and cats and humans live in harmony.

Please don't litter! Spay and neuter!

Please check out our Facebook page:

That is where most of our communication is happening right now.  You may also contact us via the 19th Ward Community Association at 328-6571 to get on our email list.

19th Ward Community Cats was hard at work in 2015!!!  In 2015, we were able to spay/neuter 287 free roaming cats in the 19th Ward as part of the City Kitty project.  They were also vaccinated,  and treated for fleas, worms, and parasites.  That's 287 outdoor cats who've received vet care and will no longer be reproducing on our streets or be vulnerable to disease!  Approximately 80 of those cats/kittens were placed for adoption with our City Kitty partner, Four-Legged Friends Animal Adoptions, Inc., and they're now in loving forever homes- off the streets entirely!  Members of this group and colony caretakers volunteer their time and bear the financial burden for much of this work.  If you'd like make a financial contribution to this group please take or mail your donation to the 19th Ward Community Association Office, 216 Thurston Road.  Every dollar is spent on vet care for our community cats.  If you'd like to help in any other way, please let us know!  Thank you!!

Hi Alice, and all,

The time is good for me. I'll assume from Marian's comment that it will be at the 19th WCA office. Thanks, Alice and everyone!

Hi Bill,

Yes, that would be Sunday the 21st -- thanks for checking, since it's good to have it clear! To fit for both Portia and Inge shall we maybe say 3:30 pm start time?

What we will be doing is setting the date for the building session, getting the design settled, and working out fundraising. Larry at Morse lumber says that he'll be happy to work with us on the design and cut the pieces (those, or finding a skilled volunteer ready to do it on a larger scale than one-off, are what have been messing me up) but we'll need to pay for that.

Alice and Everyone, are you talking about Sunday, Nov. 21 for a meeting? Any time works for me.

I have a church dinner that starts at 5:30 Sunday but might be able to make it to the the first half hour or so.

Next Sunday works for me. Will that be a working meeting? Should we bring tools? 19WCA location is good.

Alice,
That time works for me. I'm volunteering at PAN with my Foster Cat until 2 PM so 4-6 is perfect. At 19th Ward Community Center?

I didn't hear much interest in meeting week nights, but did hear some people wanting to finally figure out how to get some good shelters built. I finally have a weekend (next weekend) that I could meet on Sunday afternoon or evening (4-6 area would be best for me). Would that work for others? In the mean time I can talk with Morse Lumber about helping us with shelters, perhaps by cutting the pieces for us. We can purchase them if we get donations, which we now can...!

We have Paypal! I've just added the button to our other web site and tested it out with a donation that seemed to go through just fine. Sheri, would you be the person authorized to add the button to this page, since you created it? I'll be happy to send the code to whoever can use it!

Kitty found on Trafalgar Street.

Call Heidi or Alex at 279-9878 if you know who she belongs to or if you'd like to adopt her.

I have also been working on figuring out what to do for shelters for "my" ferals. My boyfriend helped make this styrofoam one with a tablesaw last winter, and it has been very popular with the cats: http://www.neighborhoodcats.org/HOW_TO_FERAL_CAT_WINTER_SHELTER
A sheet of the insulation is only about $8, and most any leftover paint works. I am thinking about trying to cut another with a sawzall because it would be faster. On a cold night they get 3 cats in it.

If there are others who are interested in meeting and discussing options and needs for housing, I'd be interested too.
