19th Ward Community Cats

This group is for 19th Ward residents who are concerned about the plight of stray, feral, and abandoned cats in our neighborhood.  It is our goal to live in a community where all cats are treated humanely and cats and humans live in harmony.

Please don't litter! Spay and neuter!

Please check out our Facebook page:

That is where most of our communication is happening right now.  You may also contact us via the 19th Ward Community Association at 328-6571 to get on our email list.

19th Ward Community Cats was hard at work in 2015!!!  In 2015, we were able to spay/neuter 287 free roaming cats in the 19th Ward as part of the City Kitty project.  They were also vaccinated,  and treated for fleas, worms, and parasites.  That's 287 outdoor cats who've received vet care and will no longer be reproducing on our streets or be vulnerable to disease!  Approximately 80 of those cats/kittens were placed for adoption with our City Kitty partner, Four-Legged Friends Animal Adoptions, Inc., and they're now in loving forever homes- off the streets entirely!  Members of this group and colony caretakers volunteer their time and bear the financial burden for much of this work.  If you'd like make a financial contribution to this group please take or mail your donation to the 19th Ward Community Association Office, 216 Thurston Road.  Every dollar is spent on vet care for our community cats.  If you'd like to help in any other way, please let us know!  Thank you!!

Four more ferals taken care of yesterday - two from Normandy Avenue and two from Raeburn Avenue.

Hi all, I haven't figured out yet how to respond to Marion's e-mail; I can take the cats over on Wednesday morning, though I don't have any traps.

Wow, that's fabulous!

That comment was getting to be long enough, so I wanted to break before the other thing we talked about, which was getting more people involved in getting the organization, well, organized. I'm a little less time crunched than I was the past couple of months, but if we depend wholly on me for the organization, I still fear it won't happen! So please let me know if you are interested, and we can do some further planning (and doing) around cultivating the group.

Hi all,

Thanks, Portia, for persevering! It was great to have you at the meeting last night. The group was once again small, and we talked about having the next meeting at Boulder Coffee (while we can still take advantage of the beautiful space...). We also talked about the fact that the next steps we want to take are scheduling a shelter building day (at the Community Association at 216 Thurston, unless someone else has other suggestions), collecting materials (paneling, 2x4s, insulation, roofing shingles in good condition) and funds to buy other materials (plywood, hardware, any other needed wood, roofing). Please sing out with ideas and offers!

I am sorry, but I cannot seem to figure out where this WGCA Community Office is. I went to the Danforth Community Center, but that doesn't seem to be it. Where is the office where we are supposed to meet?

Thank you,
Portia

Hi all,

And meantime I've just talked with a guy at Morse lumber about the design for the cat shelters and asked if he can give us an estimate for the cost of lumber per shelter. Hopefully he'll have that done in time for the meeting.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone on the 21st @3:30 at the 19TH WCA office.
