The D&C wrote a nice story today about Ms. Fran Johnson's long history of fighting against crime along with her efforts at organizing the National Night Out Against Crime.
See article here: FRAN JOHNSON- NIGHT OUT!
One of the recommendations for the "night out" is for residents to leave their porch lights on all night.... I know it's not 'green', but imagine how amazing our neighborhood would look if all of our homes were lit up at night!

Great article and congratulations to Ms. Fran!
The E2 Block Club has promoted porch lights on at night, every night, for about a year now. It really only costs pennies, and my electric bill never went up. How about some other block clubs do some promotion of this idea, maybe distributing flyers and e-mailing members? It really does make a difference, and so easy to do.
One of the north east block clubs used a grant from the Rochester Area Community Foundation (NeighborGood Grant) to buy CF bulbs, which they gave to home owners who promised to keep them on from dusk to dawn. They saw a reduction in property crime and an increase in perceived safety....improved lighting does help!
And, Ms. Frances is amazing! Its nice to see her recognized for her commitment.
Here are some pictures from prior National Night Out events Ms. Frances has organized.
