19th ward little league of to start for 2012

The initial meeting to try and re-establish little league baseball in the 19th got of to a good dat art yesterday at Aenon Baptist church. Yesterdays meeting proved again that often you don't need a room full of people just a rom with the right people.

Great ideas were shared and we have been promised re-organizational help from Little league International as well as lots of local experienced help.

One proposal put forth by the president of the eastside little league program, which has over 400 kids, is that we expand our boundary's to include the southwest quadrant! This is similar to what the eastside did when they expanded their boundary's to include nearly all the east side.

We have a lot to consider as we enter the first phase of rebuilding. We dare looking for adult volunteers who want to work on the central committee, coach, umpire, whatever. If you want to work, we will put to work.

Play ball in 2013!!

As for team numbers we will concentrate on the 5 to 9 year old age group. There are lots of kids in this range and they are eager to play. we will be fanning out to the other neighborhood recs and organizations. Always, with the goal of signing up parent/adults first. Expanding the playing boundary's to all of the southwest quadrant should yield almost 9,000 kids. I think we could easily field 10 teams for 2013. Maybe more. Thats more than enough for a good start and will allow for intra as well as inter league play. I will be meeting with Bruce (eastside chairman) this weekend. His committee has pledged to help us through the startup pains.

Chris, if you want to jump into the ring just say what you want to do. Whether its committee, coaching, umpiring, parent team rep, whatever. Again, thanks for attending on last evening. You've heard the story, you know what we/re up against. It will be fathers and men like youself that will make this endeavor successful. My best to the boys.
