Just needing to do a "shout out" to my premiere volunteer, Jorge Hyson, who shows up no matter what.  Frigid cold and Jorge committed to making sure that, even if it's one little apple or a SWEM Food Cupboard grocery bag pick up, someone is there to welcome you in.  We are so blessed!!!  Now I have to get him linked in to LocationSW so he knows we're shouting out to him!

Youth affiliated with The Seedfolk Store (Grow SouthWest!) were able to secure a $1,000 grant from Monroe County Youth Bureau's Youth As Resources program.  They are learning how to cook with the produce we sell and then will teach others to do the same.

Our target community is the Anthony Square community across the street.  We had a great meeting with Hechlier Edmunds last week to brainstorm ways to connect Anthony Square to the store activities.  See attached flyer that will be circulated next week.  Anthony Square Flier.docx    OUR YOUTH ROCK!!!

Interviews were held today for the 2nd phase of the Grow SouthWest Youth Employment Program.  Kudos to Lisa Barker and Josiah Krause for an excellent round of interviews.   Attached is an overview of the second phase of our youth employment program and a list of the questions for interviewees.  We are SO EXCITED that so many youth returned to participate and will be continuing to work with us.  Stay tuned!!!!

Today, Chris McCamic videotaped ProsperRochester, Inc. staff and volunteers for a documentary he is doing on how Rochester is responding to food deserts.  Kasim Wallace, our youth member of the Board of Directors, was interviewed and SO IMPRESSIVE.  Chris began by letting Kasim know he'd be asking some questions and where to look in relation to the camera. Then, before they got started, Kasim said, "May I ask you a few questions first?"  And he proceeded to get some background on what Chris' purpose was.  We are so grateful to have such a dedicated and intelligent youth representative on our Board.  Special thanks to Monica Sampat, SCORE Mentor, who has continued to provide consultant support to ProsperRochester, Inc. as we explore hydroponics and aquaponics.

Isheka!!!  We'd LOVE to have you volunteer at the store.  Always good to have friendly people to greet (and recruit) customers.  Call me at 224-5119 sometime to make plans.  Thanks for reaching out!

ProsperRochester, Inc. was fortunate to host 12 youth for the RochesterWorks! Summer Youth Employment Program in partnership with the Center for Youth Services.  Youth assisted us in establishing The Seedfolk Store and helped plan and execute the Grand Opening on 8/16/13.  Subsequently, we have been awarded a Farash grant that will enable us to hire 8 youth after school to continue learning about entrepreneurship, product development, marketing, etc.  Youth will be selected from the summer youth program participants, Westside Farmers Market workers, and other youth who have assisted with promoting urban agriculture in the SouthWest.  Lisa Barker, Youth & Community Program Director, will oversee the development of the youth program, making connections with several local businesses to expand youth opportunities  The Farash grant will also enable ProsperRochester, Inc. to build partnerships within the community around urban agriculture.

Eleanor, this is great, congratulations. I will stop by, please send notices of times, perhaps weekly, like the farmer's markets do. I will never remember. Warm regards

MacClurg
