I like horse drawn carriages.  One of my bucket items is to have a horse drawn sleigh pick me up at home during a snow storm and take me thru Genessee Valley Park.

I'd like to places to eat, little specialty shops.  A place for boaters to dock and walk around our city.  A boat launch would be nice. We shoud try and mimic the small towns along the canal that bring in alot of tourism.  A information center would be useful for everyone.  Boaters would sspend a couple days if there were restrooms with showers.  With the river right off the canal we could attract that tourism to shop and spend money in our community thus producing jobs.

Please join your neighbors on a tour of the Vacuum Oil Brownfield Opportunity Area this Saturday, November 5th starting at 12:30pm.

The area coincides with the PLEX-Southwest Rochester Riverfront Charrette boundaries. The tour will be guided by design professionals and architects from the Rochester Regional Community Design Center who will highlight the features of the natural and built environment. See the land area first-hand and begin to envision how the area could be redeveloped after the brownfield clean-up.

Departure from Boulder Coffee (Brooks and Genesee) at 12:30pm. The route will cover about three miles at a relaxed pace on paved surfaces. There is a short segment involving a mild incline.

I would like to see a focus on tourism.  Horse-drawn carriages that show folks the rich history of that area (Freedom Trails, Civil War history, Susan B Anthony Historic District, Frederick Douglass Resource Center, Mt. Olivet Church, etc.).  Poop bags on the horses so we can support the community gardens with compost.  Use the carriages to deliver produce to neighbors who have difficulty getting out of their homes.  

 

Establishing "outdoor classrooms" for our youth; opportunities to learn about natural habitats for water fowl, Brownfield remediation, economic development, gentrification, etc.  It is VERY CLEAR that our disconnected youth are better served educationally by having hands-on educational experiences; lets create that setting and use our own riverfront as one of those classrooms.  The UR being our neighbor is a big bonus and opportunity for reciprocal education; students could learn from students.

 

Maintaining access for residents on the riverfront is also key.  Promoting biking, hiking, roller blading, cross country skiing, etc.  Making sure the paths are safe (adequate lighting).  This would not only increase the "playability" areas for youth and families, it would positively impact the epidemic of obesity in our culture.
