It looks like I've inherited Bob Burris' colony!

Several people around him want the cats gone, but he can't bring himself to have Animal Services pick them up and euthanize them. I'm pretty sure that his animals are the same ones that I feed because I frequently see one of them coming across the street from his direction. So, our solution is that he will stop feeding them, and I'll become their full-time attendant. (And I think attendant is the proper term!) Bob will help out with the costs. Fortunately, I have a neighbor who will probably be willing to help with their care and feeding.

I'll try to trap one of them tomorrow night - two if someone else comes over with a trap - and have them ready to go Wednesday morning. My address is 280 Melrose Street, near the corner of Rugby, Alice, if you want to pick up Wednesday morning, or anyone else if you have an additional trap we can use.

I'll plan to keep them in our garage overnight and feed them before I turn them loose.

This is pretty much a duplicate of the e-mail I just sent, for those who did not get that. (If you are reading this, did not get that e-mail, and want to be on the list, let me know at acarli@esm.rochester.edu)

I’ve sent Ann Robinson the Square Fair application, so we should be set for the space for 6/5. In it I did not ask for either a table or chairs since I think we can come up with some between us – I know I’ve got some. The application also mentioned the advisability of arranging some sort of umbrella or tent, which I think is a great idea. I may have one, but I think the one I’m thinking of may have “gone west,” so if anyone else has one, that would be good.

Meanwhile, let’s see if we can get our next meeting date set in time for Thursday’s Update 19 deadline. Would we rather keep to our Sunday afternoon meeting format, knowing that it won’t work for Marian, or check out other days? A 5-6 pm (or 5:30-6:30 pm) meeting on a weekday would work for me. What do others think?

Sorry it's taken so long to get a report out about the last meeting, last Sunday.

One of the first things we decided was that it would be good to decide on the date for the next meeting on line, rather than at the meeting, since there were few people there. So that's one thing I'd like to hear about right away from people!

We should have that next meeting relatively soon, since one of the main items on the agenda will be preparing to have a booth at the Square Fair, which is June 5th. I'll check with Ann Robinson about what that involves from the 19WCA end and let people know (unless Marian already knows).

Second, we agreed that we will need to get more info out to draw people in. The fact that we have an "in" with Habitat for the spay/neuter clinic certainly helps! Anyone who can get a .pdf or other easy-to-print sign, please post it up! Sheri, did you find anything out about the billboards?

We DO have a paypal account that we can put a button for on the web site, but there is no way to get a bank account attached to it until we've got an account with our name on it (through 19WCA). I'll check with Angie on how that is coming, unless anyone else wants to.

That's about all from that meeting -- but it's certainly enough to be going on!

Hello all,

It did sound like moving the meeting from 4/11 to 4/18 would be helpful for several people, so:

The next 19th Ward Community Cats meeting will be at 2 pm on April 18th, a week from Sunday. We'd still like it to be a public meeting with new people invited both by fliers posted around the neighborhood and by word of mouth. so let people know!

So far it is listed on our website (http://www.19thwardcats.org/ should have given that before!) as 2 pm. Sheri, have your fliers given that time, or just referred to the web site? It's probably not good to change the time now, in case people who wouldn't know about or use this blog have already put it on calendars -- but I don't know how likely that is!

BUT I do want to make sure you can be at future meetings, and that means for one thing not planning the next meeting time without you.

The May meeting, going on our usual pattern, would be 5/2, 5/9 or 5/16. Which would be good for you?

Meanwhile, I'm beginning to think that we should really wait to have the multi-organization grant-planning meeting until we have spent some more time beefing up our own group, and that it might be best to use the May meeting to work on some sort of participation in the Square Fair, as we have talked about in the past. We should still also work on making connections with other organizations and letting them know we are interested in helping coordinate a grant application, but I can't see that happening by the next deadline (August). I cAN see it as being possible by the deadline after that, but it will go better if we've taken more time over our own organization and firming up ties with others.

What do people think about this?

Hello Fellow Cat Caretakers,
What time will the 4/11 meeting be? It is again my Sunday to volunteer at PAN. They are short on volunteers and I've done extra days to help out. I feel like I and my "ferals" are missing out on important information since I have only made two meetings so far. I appreciate being kept up on what's happening.
Sheri could you send me a pdf attachment? I'll print some copies and put them up at Westfall DSS

Hi all,

Here's may belated report on last month's meeting!

As Sheri said, one piece of news is about the web site, which exists. I'll put this report on there as well, where it may be easier to read. But there were some other important items too. First, we decided that we'd like to try to get as many new people, especially people feeding homeless cats, (I do like that phrase!) to come to the next meeting, which is Sunday week, 4/11/10. Sheri has made some fliers about the group, as she mentioned, and could get you either paper fliers or (I think?) a PDF or other file to print out. Meanwhile, if you know anyone who is feeding cats, this will be the meeting to bring them to. This does also mean that we will need to have a firm agenda that includes help for new people and ways to let them and us get more organized. One thing I definitely want to bring is a big map (on paper for now) that we can use to see where we all are and to make an on line map to put on the web site.

I'm still working on getting a way for paypal donations to happen before we get our official bank account (after 19WCA gets ITS official new bank account...). More news as soon as I succeed...

Various people have contacted various other organizations, and Marion found and checked into a grant program run by PetSmart that would be a project for all the cat-helping organizations in Rochester to collaborate for. One of our short range goals for this is to get contacts from these various groups and get them together in one room to talk about this. How is that going, for people who were working on that (getting the contacts, that is)?

At the April meeting, however many people actually come, we need to make plans for what we'd like to do at the Square Fair in June.

What am I missing?? Let me know, and I'll update the web site with an organized set of minutes by Monday night.
