19th Ward Community Cats

This group is for 19th Ward residents who are concerned about the plight of stray, feral, and abandoned cats in our neighborhood.  It is our goal to live in a community where all cats are treated humanely and cats and humans live in harmony.

That is where most of our communication is happening right now.  You may also contact us via the 19th Ward Community Association at 328-6571 to get on our email list.

19th Ward Community Cats was hard at work in 2015!!!  In 2015, we were able to spay/neuter 287 free roaming cats in the 19th Ward as part of the City Kitty project.  They were also vaccinated,  and treated for fleas, worms, and parasites.  That's 287 outdoor cats who've received vet care and will no longer be reproducing on our streets or be vulnerable to disease!  Approximately 80 of those cats/kittens were placed for adoption with our City Kitty partner, Four-Legged Friends Animal Adoptions, Inc., and they're now in loving forever homes- off the streets entirely!  Members of this group and colony caretakers volunteer their time and bear the financial burden for much of this work.  If you'd like make a financial contribution to this group please take or mail your donation to the 19th Ward Community Association Office, 216 Thurston Road.  Every dollar is spent on vet care for our community cats.  If you'd like to help in any other way, please let us know!  Thank you!!

Yep-
this little cat who we were calling 'little bit' is now named "moxie". She is quite charming and is making the 'rounds' here on Marlborough. She MIGHT have some kittens hidden away someplace so please keep your eyes and ears open for that.
We are about 3/4 done with building 2 cat shelters for our back yard- our new next door neighbor calls them cat 'hotels'!

Margy, I've seen that cutie around. I thought she actually did belong to someone on our street because she hangs around the same two houses a lot. She looks like she's just a baby--thank you for getting care for her.

Hi, I'm posting for Pat, who is planning on moving with her husband. She has some flyers and door-hangers related to feral cats and wants to know if there is anyone who would find them useful. Let me know, and I'll put you in touch with Pat.

Good article! I like "Cat Cabal" for the group name.

Well, we (very easily) caught the little grey female and are keeping her in a bedroom in the house. I will be putting up "found" signs tomorrow. She is very affectionate! Please, please, if you know anyone who might be interested in adopting this little one, get in touch me ASAP!

Hi! I live on Trafalgar Street and several of us on the block have repeatedly seen a small grey cat, very similar to your picture, Sheri, of Cecelia, although no white on her breast. She has a flea collar but she's young, thin, and possibly now lost. She came right up to me last night and let me pet her, after which I gave her some food that she heartily ate. The 19th Ward group posted an email about her but to date, I have seen no "lost cat" signs ... anybody willing and able to maybe foster and/or adopt? I just added a formerly homeless kitten to my brood the beginning of June, bringing my own cat count to 4, so I'm afraid I cannot. Please let me know if there is either any interest or knowledge of who this cute little one might belong to! Thanks!!

My name is Hilary and I live on Marlborough with my husband Dan. I love cats, but it's my husband who has a real knack with them--I call him the "cat whisperer." He's never tried to charm a feral, but is very good at coaxing skittish cats and soothing agitated ones. We have two cats indoors and thus cannot bunk any ferals "in transition," but I always have my eyes peeled for cats wandering around at loose ends. They often take refuge in our yard because there are lots of dense hedges (for the time being) that provide shelter and safety (and complacent birds for lunch). I report all sightings of "hard-luck" cats on our street to Sheri. She and Robin deserve copious applause for their work tracking the ferals of the upper GPB area.

Like many cat owners, we have catmint in our garden. It used to get stomped on by visiting cats and I despaired of it ever getting a chance to flower, but ever since we moved it next to the Russian sage plants, it's flourished untouched. I read that many animals avoid plants growing near Russian sages because the scent of the leaves interferes with their ability to detect the scent of other animals approaching. If you have catmint or catnip plants that are taking a beating from visits by feral cats, plant some Russian sage nearby. The newer cultivar "Little Spire" is great if you're short on space because of growing so many catmints!
