19th Ward Community Cats

This group is for 19th Ward residents who are concerned about the plight of stray, feral, and abandoned cats in our neighborhood.  It is our goal to live in a community where all cats are treated humanely and cats and humans live in harmony.

Please don't litter! Spay and neuter!

That is where most of our communication is happening right now.  You may also contact us via the 19th Ward Community Association at 328-6571 to get on our email list.

19th Ward Community Cats was hard at work in 2015!!!  In 2015, we were able to spay/neuter 287 free roaming cats in the 19th Ward as part of the City Kitty project.  They were also vaccinated,  and treated for fleas, worms, and parasites.  That's 287 outdoor cats who've received vet care and will no longer be reproducing on our streets or be vulnerable to disease!  Approximately 80 of those cats/kittens were placed for adoption with our City Kitty partner, Four-Legged Friends Animal Adoptions, Inc., and they're now in loving forever homes- off the streets entirely!  Members of this group and colony caretakers volunteer their time and bear the financial burden for much of this work.  If you'd like make a financial contribution to this group please take or mail your donation to the 19th Ward Community Association Office, 216 Thurston Road.  Every dollar is spent on vet care for our community cats.  If you'd like to help in any other way, please let us know!  Thank you!!

Any evening but Tuesdays would be good for me in the next couple of weeks --thanks for doing this!

Sorry, ladies, it's been a crazy few weeks!  Are any evenings better than others for a gathering?  Would be great to swap stories/info on cats over here.

I think that would be a wonderful idea. I haven't heard much about what's going on with "our cats".

That would be wonderful! I've been aware of how much we need to meet, but my life has exploded in complexity this winter and there just has been no time when I could commit to setting one up. but I'd love to come to one and bring along the "cat map" we started at least year's Square Fair.

I was thinking, would anyone be interested in having a meet and greet at my house some evening to talk about our efforts in curtailing the cat population explosion in the 19th Ward?  I thought it might be fun to swap stories, gets some stats about how many cats people have rescued, TNRed and such.  :-)

Hi Inge!  Thank you, and it's my pleasure to be able to help.

Hi Jess,

Nice to meet you Jes. I too  started out alone with strays, ferals and their kittens. Thank you for caring about the abandoned/stray cats in the 19th ward.

Just wanted to introduce myself.  My name is Jes, and I have taken TONS of ferals and strays off Westfield Street alone.  Also TNRed a few last year and plan on trapping the other few I still see hanging around this year.  Nice to meet you all!

Two ferals were spayed and released last week in the Susan B Anthony neighborhood. Thank you for opening up this opportunity to help our furry friends. I plan on taking two more in this month as well. I cannot express enough about how much the services at Lollypop are appreciated!!!!

About a month ago a new adult cat showed up and is not feral. She is very friendly and has been declawed. Since I found this out, she has been sleeping in my spare bedroom. I have posted her on Craigslist as lost cat but no responses. If you know of anyone who would like to adopt her, please email me or call 313-0995. She is a wonderful cat and won't scratch your furniture!

Alice,

I commented on your message about the Lollypop spay-neuter clinic.  I don't know what happened to it.  Saturdays are not good for me.  But Wednesdays are--  to go with a person and a cat(s) to Habitat in Webster.  Maybe a meeting in the not too distant future would be good.  Thanks for posting the Lollypop message, and all you do, especially your great organizing things!
