Extraction of Community Schools and Busing issues from Lovely Warren's Rochester 2034 Draft: Rochester 2034 - Community Schools - Busing.pdf

I extracted this 76KB pdf out of the huge 244,191KB Rochester 2034 draft.  She has incorporated most everything we have been fighting for in this draft regarding neighborhood/community schools and local busing!

-> Here is an interesting article:

In particular this caught my eye:

"And assuming that expanded learning can be credited for at least some of the improvement at community schools like School 17 and East Upper and Lower, some city officials are interested in seeing the district add more of them, too.

Ten more city schools will begin converting to the community school model in the coming academic year: Schools 10, 16, 19, 28, and 33; Wilson Foundation; Leadership Academy for Young Men; Edison Career and Technology High School; Integrated Arts and Technology High School; and Vanguard Collegiate High School. All are low-performing schools, according to the state."

Here are a couple of interesting articles from the D&C:

I should also note that while many of the Districts problems are of its own making or from the poverty and social issues it faces, many also come from State and Federal mandates and regulations which in some cases hurt effective teaching, are disruptive to schools in the District and hurt our neighborhoods.
