It's a very cold and snowy day here in the city and i decided to run some errands. While driving down Genesee Park Blvd I came across a man who was sitting on the corner of Lehigh with a bicycle laying next to him. A car had stopped but he waved them on. I slowed down to see if he got up and it seemed that he wasn't able to so I turned around stopped and talked with him. As I approached him he tried to get up but fell again. I offered to help him get up and then realized that he was intoxicated and that helping him get back on a bike in the snow was probably not the best idea! He, rather reluctantly, allowed me to call 911 - I got a blanket from my car to cover him up and waited until the ambulance arrived.

During the 8 minute wait for the ambulance, SEVERAL people stopped to see if we needed help. One gentleman recognized the fallen man and shared some information that needed to be given to the paramedics......This experience reminded me that we have many good people here in the 19th Ward!

Margy, Thank you for being the first to help the man - being the first is the hardest part and I'm thankful you were there. We have many good people in the 19th Ward and you're one of the best!

Thanks for sharing this, Margy.  We need to be reminded of the goodwill that exists.
