Red Light Camera's

Yesterday's D&C had an interesting article on the red light cameras that are scattered throughout the City.

RED LIGHT CAMERA'S  It seems that 19th Ward residents have disproportionately received tickets for running red lights even though we have NONE of these cameras in our neighborhood. Given my experience with drivers here who routinely run stop signs I…

SPAM .... not a food being locally served but something that seems to be happening here!

I have sent an email to John and Marian but am posting here with the hope that others will note that it appears our page has been 'spammed' - by this I mean that a single member has joined every conceivable 'group' and is posting the same message over and over and over again. "SPAM" can make groups/discussions very difficult as people who visit the website have to wade through the spam to get to the 'real' discussions. If you're trying to 'follow' a discussion you've likely received many…

Good people in the 19th Ward

It's a very cold and snowy day here in the city and i decided to run some errands. While driving down Genesee Park Blvd I came across a man who was sitting on the corner of Lehigh with a bicycle laying next to him. A car had stopped but he waved them on. I slowed down to see if he got up and it seemed that he wasn't able to so I turned around stopped and talked with him. As I approached him he tried to get up but fell again. I offered to help him get up and then realized that he was…

Chili Ave Car Crash

I'm sure that some of you have seen the news of the horrific crash on Chili Ave last night..... I was one of the primary witnesses to the event as it occurred right in front of me (40 or so feet) when i was driving home from being away for a few days. I have seen a lot of horrible things in my life- this crash was the most violent i have ever witnessed. the car was in flames within seconds of impact and there was nothing that i could do to help possible occupants except call 911 and then direct… Continue

Easter on Marlborough Road

About 4 years ago, the Marlborough Road Neighbors group came up with the idea of planting some type of flowering tree on the tree lawns - after some discussion we realized that was a bit ambitious but decided that planting something would be time well spent. Sheri Tehan and others organized this and over the past 3 Fall seasons have planted daffodil bulbs with the hopes that they would survive the winter and bloom in the Spring. Some neighbors have added additional bulbs along the… Continue

What's new on Thurston!

Driving down Thurston this evening was yet another disappointing experience. It is again/still filled with litter. THe 'clubs' were hopping with illegally parked cars. LOTS of people just hanging out.... I noticed yet another 'corner store'. But, the highlight of what's new on Thurston is a CASKET STORE!

I don't believe that i have ever seen a casket store before - and I find it strangely…

Snow, snow, snow - quick poll

Marlborough Road has a LOT of snow/slush still in the road and we've also had a LOT of residential plows clear driveways and leave snow in the road and/or in front of other driveways.
Any other streets having similar problems??

Thurston Road is depressing

I drive on Thurston every day, sometimes several times and decided today that I need to avoid it for a while. It depresses me! Aside from the Presbyterian Home and Hunts there are no signs of the holidays on Thurston. The Post Office does have some Christmas and Hanukah stamps for sale, but the area in front of the post office is filled with litter and trash. Likewise, the rest of Thurston (from Marlborugh to Brooks) is FILLED with litter- bottles, paper plates, newspapers, drug baggies,… Continue

Renaissance Square.....

I've been following the recent Renaissance Square project/debate and would be interested in hearing more about how our elected City Officials viewed this project. I've seen Dana Miller's comments on TV and in the newspaper but haven't seen anything from any other city council members. Does anyone have additional information on how various council members viewed this project, how they voted, etc??
